RIVER RESERVATION.
Alt four day-schools will run
till the laso of June; but our
Boarding school will be out al-
ready the 18th, that's earlier
than ever. There are 134 pupils
here at the Boarding school; 58
of them are Catholic. During
the school year the catholic pu-
pils have come to the Catholic
church every Sunday forenoon
except one. I have divided them
into three classes: Cofession,
Communion and Bible. Both the
Communion and the Bible classes
have catechism also on Wednes-
day at the school.
There are 20 in the Bible class.
These 20 have four studies: Ca-
techism, Bible, Prayer and songs.
In the last study I gave them
their markstiot for the way they
sang, but for the way they learn-
ed the songs by heart, if well or
not. 7 of the 20 have perfect in
each study, namely: Charles
Claymore. Antoine Arpan, Ami-
lia Arpan, Fidelia Benoist, Es-
ther Clamoyre, Cora Ducharm
and Lucy Larrabe.
Justin Eaglefeather is the
president of the Congress for
South Dakota. It will be done
so as he announced in the last
Eyanpaha; the Congress for S.
Dakota will be held here at this
agency, coming July 15, 16, 17.

To all the boys of North and
South Dakota. Friends.
Our details change every six
weeks; now I am office-boy. Last
details I worked in the shoe shop.
Next month I make my first
Communion.
Everybody sings during Mass.
To day we saug the following
songs: God we praise Thy name;
To Jesus Hea.rt all burning;
Come Holy Gliost, Creator blest;
Daily, daily sing to Mary; and
Mother dearest, Mother fairest.
I am in the fourth grade, I am
twelve years old.
Friends, please tell me some-
thing about your school.
Truly yours
Martin Ducharme.

Eyanpaha, Friend.
There are boys at
the school. I am here the first
time, I was at Rapid City before.
I learn this year 12 church songs.
Last winter our priest hired me.
often to saw and chop wood for
him. This spring he made a trip
around the Reservation; he was
gone four Sundays, anyway we
had Sunday school every Sun-
day. Dr. Slattery taught us. Six
of us boys can make their first
Communion next month. I am
one of them. Last Thursday
our priest taught catechism here
at tiie school; he will come again
next Wednesday.
I have four books, they are:
Paerber's catechism, Bible sto-
ries, Guardian Angel, and St.
Basil's bj^mn book; the last I like
best. Every boy and every girl
of the Communion and Bible
class has them. I am sixteen
years old and I am in the fourth
grade. Mitakuyepi. iyuha can-

Friends.
You are lucky you can
go to Mass every morning; but I
can npver go during the week.
On Sunnays I can go every time
there is Mass; but sometimes
there isn't any. Our priest has
to be out on the reservation some
Sundays.
I assist at Mass this way: At
the Ofilertory I offer God my
senses and my heart. At the
Consecration, first I look at the
holy Host, then I bow and say in
my heart: My Lord and God, I
believe that Thou art present
here under the appearance of
bread. At the Communion I make
a spiritual communion.
Friends, how do you assist at
Mass? Please tell us that in the
Eyanpaha.
Truly Yours
Antoine Arpan.

To all the girls of the following
four schools; Martin Kenel, Im-
maculate Conception, St. Fran-
cis and Holy Rosary. Friends.
We like to hear from you and
I think you like to hear from us;
that's why I am going to tell you
a few things we catholic girls
here have done during this
school year. We went to church
every Sunday except on May 15,
it rained heavy that forenoon.
We walked nearly always, we
rode only a few tim^s, the snow
was then too deep. We got to
church always at half past nine.
We had first Sunday school, then
Mass and after Mass sometimes
again Sunday school. We
have the. following four books:
Faeber's catechism, Bible Histo-
ry, St. Basil's Hymn book and
the nice little prayer-book called
"The Guardian Angel." All the
girls who are either in the Com-
munion or Bible class have those
four books. There was no choir
here, everybody sang during
Mass. We always sang some
English songs; we now know
thirteen church hymns, na-mely:
Jesus, Savior of my soul. Like a
strong and raging fire, and those
eleven my companion Emma
White has told you in the Janua-
ry number of the Eyanpaha.
We left church at half past
eleven. Some Sundays there
was no Mass; our priest was out
on the reservation; then we went
back a little earlier.
Friends, please tell us some-
thing of what you have done.
Your friend
Phoebe Nichols.

To the girls of the Martin Kenel,
Immacculate Conception, St.
Francis and Holy Rosary
Schools. Friends.
I think you could re-
ceive Communion oftener than
we. We could receive only about
every fifth Sunday.
On communion days we left the
school already at 6:30; we always
had to walk. Our church is good
a half a mile away from our
school.
We took some bread and beef
along for our breakfast. W^e
examined our consciences and
confessed following the ten com-
mandments.
After communion we always
went to the priest's house to cook
our breakfast.
Only on Easter Sunday both
boys and girls received together.
Next ration Sunday, Jun 12, 3
girls and 7 boys can make their
first communion; my brother Mo-
ses is one of them, I am glad of it.
Friends, please write us and
send your letters also to the
Eyanpaha.
Truly Yours

St. Francis S. D.
Dear friend.
Our priest gave us
school girls the Eyanpaha of this
month. We were very glad to
read in it your welcome letter.
You want to know what song we
are going to sing in honor of the
Bishop. I wish to say, that one
in Catholic Y^outh's, page 151,
number 145, '"Welcome to our
Pastor." But instead of Pastor
we shall say Bishop. Friend, I
am not so lucky as you. I can't
go to a catholic school. There
is none on this reservation..
Please pray for me, I hope to
meet you here next congress
and we shall have a good time.
Truly yours
Emma White Eagle.
